Nice Compact Vac for Light Duty Use

I really like this little Dirt Devil Quick Flex 2-in-1 Hand Vacuum - BD20050. Now obviously, this compact vacuum cleaner really isn't meant for those heavy duty vacuuming chores, though I have been running up my living room floor (wood) with it. Very light weight and cordless, I find it great for getting under the futon. The hand vacuum does a great job on upholstery (there is an upholstery brush included), releases and reattaches easily and is light enough that even I can use it one handed.The vacuum has a very small footprint. The handle folds down to make it even smaller, making this a real space saver for tight places, an ideal vac to carry in your camper or motor home. (Folded the vacuum cleaner measure about 24 inches from the floor to the top and about 11 inches from the front of the brush roller to the back of the widest part of the folded handle.)Like all items that come with rechargeable batteries (cell phones, iPad and notebook computers too) do make sure that you charge this fully (24 hours) then use it without charging it again until you completely drain the battery before charging it the second time. (I'm still running on the first chaarge.) That will avoid most charging problems down the road. Some manufacturers recommend that you completely drain the batteries and recharge them once a month or so.Nice small vacuum cleaner for small spaces.

Limited Battery Life

Over the long haul, I cannot remember when I didn't have a Dirt Devil vacuum of some kind. As far as hand helds go, Dirt Devil ruled. As long as my Dirt Devil was corded, I knew I was in business. Then came the battery powered models. Dirt Devils got lighter, and their ability to suck the varnish off the hardwood floors disappeared. That's when I stopped buying Dirt Devil products. I was assured that things have changed in the battery powered vacuum world. So imagine my hesitation when given the opportunity to test drive this Dirt Devil Flex 2-1 model. After four days of continuous use, these are my thoughts.After a quick inventory and reading of the instructions it was time to charge up and hope for the best. The on board light blinks when fully charged. Weighing in at just a little over 5 lbs it is indeed a light weight. At almost 23" in length this unit is not built for tall people. The very first thing that caught my attention is that like my older Dirt Devils, this model has a great ergonomic feel to it. Control is right at the fingertips.Now for the test. On wood floors this product did well. On my low cut office carpet it was hit and miss when picking up small amounts of shredder debris. Mainly miss. The dusting brush is a wasted accessory. I didn't utilize the crevice tool. The motorized brush roll is okay at best. I question the long term durability of the fold down handle. I do like the ability to detach the hand vacuum for small jobs. Surprisingly, it easily held its own on my car's carpet until the battery died out. I certainly do appreciate the bag-less cup feature.Make no mistake, this line up of portable stick and hand vacs is not going to get confused with the mighty canister vacs that Mrs. Cleaver used to clean up the Beaver's latest debacle. One thing is for sure. 12 volt batteries are not created equal. I noticed an immediate power drop off at about the five minute mark. I was totally out of juice in about nine minutes. The manufacturer tags on a one year warranty on parts and the motor. Replacement accessories can also be ordered via the Dirt Devil website.Overall, this product might be the fix in small households for those extremely quick clean ups. Its by no means a cleaning tool that can go the distance. Personally, I am not impressed with the way too short battery life. I wonder if the folks at Dirt Devil can remember what it was like to build a solid hand held vacuum cleaner that was number one in suction. It wasn't that long ago guys.

This vacuum is absolutely perfect for quick cleaning. I have 2 cats shedding like there's no tomorrow. I use this vac for 5 minutes every morning and now my house is free of cat hair without having to drag out my heavy vacuum. I am very happy... thank goodness for small favors.Here are just some of pros and cons:Pros: - light, easy to handle and maneuver - decent suction (picks up cat hair and cat litter alike - much better than an electric sweeper I use to use) - easy to clean - works well on carpet as well as hardwood and linoleum - reasonanbley pricedCons: - battery lasts about 15 minutesCan't really think of many cons. For $40 (including shipping), this vac works just as well as more expensive vacs in its category. I would give this 4 1/2 stars.
