2Quiet, easy to use, not reliable and bad quality control
By J. W.
Floor vacuum is great when it works - great for sweeping, and noise level quite manageable. Loved it when it works. In approx. 1 year (right after warranty expired), this floor vacuum stopped working. Took it in to the Oreck store where I bought this, and they could not find my purchase record, even though they can find my name in their customer database. They wanted to charge $20 service to determine what's wrong, and then quote repair charge separately...so I decided to take it apart myself and find out what the problem was. Here's what's wrong with the Oreck:1. Electrical contacts were bent, not making good contact with the battery. The metal contacts in the vacuum are made from cheap tin that really are not meant to be used as springs (such as battery spring contact). They could have used beryllium copper alloy or, as a lower cost compromise, at least phosphorus bronze (temperature hardened). Cost increment would have been around $0.10 and Oreck wins by avoiding a lot of failed vacuums due to bad contact. Gold plating for corrosion resistance would be nice!2. Took apart the fan motor to make sure it was free spinning - not stuck. I was shocked to see that the plastic impeller was torn in places. Since this is sealed (foam filter screens and housing all in place) and there were no broken pieces to be seen, the conclusion is that the impeller was broken coming out of the factory, and Oreck's factory (or OEM) chose to use the broken impeller in a brand new product. In conclusion, I like the idea of the floor vacuum, but cheap materials, poor quality control (or management decision to use broken components) led to early failure. This is why I am only giving this product 2 stars.BTW - after smoothing the rough edges from the fan's impeller and reshaping the cheap spring contact, the floor vacuum is now working again. Next project - get some beryllium copper and make my own spring contacts.

5Great little vacuum for everyday clean ups
By Felix E. Feygelman
I have had the vacuum for a few weeks now and it seems to be very well designed. I use it on hardwood floor, tile, and on my rugs. I had the Oreck Electrik Broom, the older model, and it would always get clogged when vacuuming rugs. This vacuum really picks up crumbs and dog hair, and while the other review said it pushed the cat food around, if you used the nozzle attachment I am sure it would pick it up. It is pretty easy to remove the power head and it is very comfortable to have the long handle so you can use the nozzle without kneeling over. This is not designed to be your only vacuum, but for everyday clean ups in between using your full size vacuum it does a good job.

5Best cordless vac I've owned
By Nicerobot
I've had my speed sweep a little over a year and love it. Its got a good amount of suction for a cordless and a fast moving motorized beater brush. The dust container is also a decent size and the filter is washable which is nice. The battery removes from the unit and charges on a sepaerate plug in charger. I see another reviewer complained about not being able to move the speed sweep over thick pile carpet - honestly I dont' know of any cordless vacuum that would work on deep deep pile- that's expecting way too much. I use it on my short pile and it works great. There's a pre filter mesh cup over the main filter which is nice as it stops a lot of the finer dust from cloging the main filter. All in all a great cordless stick vaccum.
